The Sauvignon Blanc grapes come from across Napa Valley (over a third from estate vineyards in Rutherford, Calistoga, Carneros and southeastern Napa Valley). Superb fruit produces a full-bodied, crisp and complex wine with the distinctive characters of the variety. Cool-climate Carneros and southern Napa Valley grapes impart a fresh, zesty tone rare for Napa Valley wines from this variety. Sauvignon Blanc is blended with Semillon to enrich the wine’s mid-palate and soften its acidity, and Sauvignon Musqué, an aromatic clone of Sauvignon Blanc adds a bright, floral note to the bouquet. The fruit is night harvested and whole-cluster pressed to capture its fresh, concentrated flavors and crisp acidity. 81% of the wine is fermented in stainless steel tank, 18% in older, neutral oak barrels and 1% in steel barrels; this mix produces the freshest, liveliest expression of vibrant Sauvignon Blanc. The wine matures 5 months in neutral French oak barrels to enrich its texture, aromas and flavors.
Picture-perfect, with consistently mild summer weather free of rain and significant heat spikes. The grapes were harvested at precisely the right moment, capturing an optimal balance of ripe, concentrated fruit flavors and lively acidity. Startlingly fresh, vivid and bracing aromas of white grapefruit, gooseberry, lime, kiwi, and ripe honeydew melon leap from the glass, with spice and vanilla traces. On the palate, ripe grapefruit, guava, melon, green apple and mineral flavors are medium-bodied and remarkably rich, intense, concentrated and vibrant. The long finish is packed with fresh fruit and mineral/chalky notes that recall white Bordeaux.
