Description

Each of the four distinctive vineyard blocks that produce this Cabernet, located in the gently sloping western benchlands in the Oakville AVA, is planted with a different clone. Grapes are hand harvested at night, then each lot is separately fermented and barrel aged before blending to forge a uniquely complex and harmonious wine. After the grapes are crushed, they undergo a cold soak, followed by fermentation with a cultured French yeast strain to enhance texture, depth and intensity. The wines then undergo maceration before maturation in French oak barrels. Plentiful spring rains in Napa Valley made early irrigation unnecessary, resulting in markedly small Cabernet Sauvignon berries with deeply concentrated flavors. A consistently cool summer brought slow, steady ripening and the development of grape sugars and flavors to produce superbly balanced wines. Grapes for this wine were picked from Sept. 29-Oct. 9th, with an ideal balance of ripe fruit flavors, supple tannins and bright acidity.
This wine boasts a deep, dark ruby hue, with characteristically intense, youthfully brooding black fruit aromas, along with complex notes of earth, slate, mineral, spice and cocoa. The wine’s dense, sinewy and concentrated flavors of boysenberry, fig, wild blackberry, plum compote and cassis flavors are accented by intriguing earth, mineral and spice notes which suffuse its long, flavor-packed finish. This classic Napa Valley single-vineyard Cabernet drinks wonderfully now, but its incredible depth, intensity and length suggest it will age well for at least a decade.
