    Description

    "
One of France’s leading estates, Domaine de la Janasse has become a reference point winery, largely because of the extraordinary efforts of the young Christophe Sabon. Under Sabon’s supervision, Janasse’s Châteauneuf du Papes just keep getting better and better. Moreover, this is also a terrific source for fabulous values from his bevy of vin de pays and Côtes du Rhône selections.

    –Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate
Owned and operated by the Sabon family, Domaine de la Janasse was named after the small town just north of Châteauneuf-du-Pape where the family farm was located. Starting with only 37 acres, the family now owns over 200 acres of land devoted to growing both red and white Côtes du Rhône varieties as well as the flagship Châteauneuf red which today has three different expressions: Tradition, Chaupin, and Vieilles Vignes. The domaine is now considered one of the best in its region thanks to thorough research on the soil, exposure, and microclimates of the Sabon’s particular plot that is packed with history.
Opaque ruby. Ripe boysenberry and cassis on the exotically perfumed nose, complicated by suggestions of fresh flowers, Indian spices and incense. Sweet, deeply concentrated dark berry, candied cherry and fruitcake flavors show superb energy and a smooth, velvety texture. Really stains the palate but comes off graceful, with serious depth of flavor but no excess fat. Finishes sweet and supple, displaying outstanding persistence and a suave flourish of floral pastilles. 93 Points
