Description
In 1987, we assembled our first vintage of a wine that aspired “to belong in the company of the finest wines of the world.” Our dream was to make a wine styled after the famous ‘first growth’ producers of Bordeaux, using the same grape varieties and made with the same uncompromising care as the Grands Vins of those venerable chateaux. It has been our flagship wine and quality statement from the beginning, and with this vintage we celebrate its 25th anniversary. Fittingly, the 2015 Isosceles is a beautifully balanced wine that shows great depth and complexity upon release and will continue to evolve for many years, much like the vintages that preceded it and the wines that inspired it.2015 began with bud break about two weeks later than usual. Variable weather in late spring caused uneven fruit set, but naturally limited our yields without the need for manual thinning. The summer months were cooler than normal, delaying fruit ripening and maturity, but with careful canopy management we were able to expose the fruit and promote full maturity as the season progressed. A warm early fall with little rain allowed
us to slowly ripen and mature the fruit with great results and with yields about 30% below what we would normally see.
Bright with a dark ruby, purple core lightening slightly at the rim. Aromatic with ripe black cherry, cassis and a touch of red berry brightness, with toasted vanilla, licorice, and cinnamon spice combined with cedar and subtle smoky cocoa notes. Full bodied with black cherry, black currant, and red berry fruit on the entry, mixed with complex spice of vanilla, licorice and cola accents. The mid-palate shows savory cabernet notes with smoky cedar, chocolate, and continuing ripe black fruit. The finish is very long and full with bright cherry, candy fruit and spice, balanced with firm, plush tannins that will smooth out even more with each year as this wine matures. The Isosceles has great fruit character while remaining elegant and balanced on the palate, continuing the quality winemaking tradition we started 25 years ago.
