    Winemaker's Notes
The Gravity Red Blend is named for a remote, hard-to-reach Petite Sirah block on a lower slope of the Monte Rosso Vineyard. Its location on the edge of a canyon and its steepness produces grapes with exceptional intensity. Six varieties—Petite Sirah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel, Syrah, Grenache, and Barbera—create a vivid expression of the power and depth. This dark, dense wine is layered with stunning flavors ranging from boysenberry and blueberry jam to blackberry and fig. The dark berry and fig flavors pull together with accents of black truffle and dusty cocoa that create a full-bodied mouthfeel framed by assertive tannins and a long, concentrated finish.

Even better is the incredible 2014 Proprietary Red Blend Gravity, which is an intriguing blend of 33% Petite Sirah, 29% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Zinfandel and the rest Syrah, Grenache and Barbera aged in 28% new French oak. Virtually all of it comes from the Monte Rosso Vineyard with tiny quantities from Frei Ranch and Snows Lake vineyards owned by Gallo. Another exuberant whopper at 15.9% alcohol, the wine is an opaque purple color, with notes of pen ink, creosote, black truffle, blackberry, blueberry, and a hint of white chocolate in a full-bodied, massive, layered, rich and concentrated style. Interesting enough, the alcohol at 15.9% is balanced by the wine’s rather zesty acidity and modest pH of 3.46. This is a killer wine at a great price for something this profound. 5,000 cases were produced.

An elegant blend of five grape varieties—Petite Sirah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel, Grenache, and Barbera—the 2014 Mount Peak Gravity exhibits excellent richness and loads of ripe berries with a light shading of earthiness. Pair it with savory beef stew. (Tasted: September 12, 2017, San Francisco, CA)
2014 Mount Peak "Rattlesnake" Sonoma County Zinfandel
92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
Take, for example, the 2014 Zinfandel Rattlesnake, a blend of 96% Zinfandel and 4% Petite Sirah with 85% from the Monte Rosso Vineyard and the balance from other Gallo vineyards. It is aged in all French oak, of which 23% is new. A whopper at 16% natural alcohol, the wine has classic Zinfandel characteristics of Provençal spices, roasted herbs, pepper and oodles of briary black raspberry and black cherry fruit. It cuts a big swath across the palate with loads of glycerin and an unctuous, thick, juicy quality that is provocative. The wine is rich, ripe and ideal for drinking over the next 7-8 years. 5,000+ cases were produced. (10/2017)
2014 Mount Peak "Sentinel" Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon
92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
Lastly, 4,750 cases were made of the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Sentinel, 83% from the Monte Rosso Vineyard in Sonoma and the rest from other Sonoma sources. It is a blend of 97% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Petite Sirah aged in 53% new French oak. Again, ripeness is well-noted in the 15.7% alcohol, but there is not a bit of heat to the wine’s overall character. A wine of considerable stature, gravitas, intensity and full-bodied power, it is muscular, backward and somewhat primordial, this wine needs a good 1-2 more years bottle age and should last for 25-30 years. Patience, please. (RP) (10/2017)
