Description

Late-bottled vintage port is a single-vintage blend that has been aged four to six years in oak casks, unlike a vintage port which ages only two years in wood before bottling. As a result of this extended wood contact, LBV ports have mature, fruity flavors at a younger age, offering much of the character of a vintage port without the wait and at a lower price. Fermentation lasted about three to fives days, producing a wine with an excellent extract. It was aged in Vila Nova de Gaia, in tonnels of approximately 15,000 liters. This is a traditional LBV, without any hot or cold treatment, unfiltered, thus preserving all of the existing fruit's potential, as well as a long ageing process.
Almost opaque in color, a very intense red and bluish reflection. Intense aroma, full of ripe fruit, grape and fig, combined with a delicious chocolate and aniseed notes. In the mouth, it is full-bodied, soft and elegant, full of ripe fruit and balanced tannins as well as a long end, promising a good evolution in the bottle.
The grapes, harvested by hand in small containers, were carried to the mill and crushed by foot. This was a year of low yield and moderate temperatures, both during the summer and during the harvest. The ripening of the grapes was much slower than usual and the harvest date was carried forward by two weeks. The result was healthy grapes with good concentration and freshness, which produced wines of the same characteristics. It is a good accompaniment to game, cheese soufflé, Serra or other fatty cheeses and any chocolate desserts. The suggested serving temperature is between 17º and 18º C. Store the bottle on its side, in a cool, dry and dark place.
