Trefethen Family Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon 2014

Description

Our Cabernet Sauvignon vines are planted in the northwestern quadrant of our estate vineyard in the Oak Knoll District of Napa Valley, in gravelly soils that warm quickly in the spring. This warmer site, combined with limited yields, produces Cabernet Sauvignon fruit with bright, complex flavors, resulting in wine with deep ruby color and heady aromas of plums, blackberries, and forest-floor spice.
The vines got off to a slow start as April and May were both cooler and wetter than average. The cool trend continued into the mild summer and a full growing season that was our coolest since 1978. The exception was one notable heat spell in late August, when temperatures soared to over 111° F! Fortunately, September and October brought enough warm days to provide a beautiful finish to the growing season, allowing us to complete harvest a full week earlier than in 2012.
Aromas of black currant and savory spices highlight the nose on this beautiful and balanced wine. On the palate, it shows brightness with a touch of earthiness, caramel and black pepper. The finish is lush with richness and great structure.
Start with a base of a hearty red meat, duck or veal cut. Compliment the entree with sides or sauces featuring mushrooms, roasted tomatoes or garden spices to bring out the flavors in the wine. When pairing with cheese, stay with cow's milk or very mild blue cheeses.

We ship in styro-foam containers, for the most secure delivery possible. Please understand that during the summer months, the shipping insurance does not cover heat damage incurred during shipping. We only ship on a Monday and Tuesday to limit the length of time that the wine is on the truck.
